Two things to check - Start - Default Programs - Set your default programs
(first option) - Select Windows Mail in left pane list - BELOW right side
pane will be a statement such as "This program has all its defaults", or,
"This program had 3 of 5 defaults". If later, select the second green arrow
to "Choose defaults for this program" and select all the boxes there, Okay /
Save on your way out. Regardless of which statement you had, select the
first green arrow, "Set this program as default" (for good measure).
If you still have issues, the second thing to check is Start - Default
Programs - "Associate a file type with a program" (second option) - scroll
down until you see .doc. It may already have "Microsoft Office Word 97-2003
Document" in there, however, select it in the list and then select the
"Change program" button (upper right of window) and select or browse to the
program. Effectively you are simply resetting / reinforcing that program
type association. Okay / Save on your way out.
If you continue to have problems, you may need to make a registry change and
/ or downgrade IE8 to IE7.
