    Unable to send to Newsgroup

I have recently switched to WLM from OE. I have been able to send and
receive in OE for 5 years to the same newsgroups. Since the switch, I am
able to receive without issues.... but when I reply, the post does not show
up as posted. To make matters worse, on the post on replied to... a pink/red
type figure is showing on top of the first couple of letters in the subject
line. When I go to the actual newsgroup, it is not showing there either.

I have checked and rechecked my newsgroup settings. The college states that
I have the correct settings/ports and all the right check boxes checked.

Please assist if you can... this is driving me crazy. I have already
unchecked the "use Microsoft communities" in the general tab... so please
tell me something else that will work....

    Thanks.

When you reply be sure to select "Reply Group", not "Reply" (this would only go
    to the sender).

    Verify the following settings:

View > Show or Hide > Show all messages
View > Show or Hide > (disable) Show replies to my messages
View > Sort by > Sent
View > Sort by > Sent descending

    Hi, Teresa.

Under Actions on the Menu Bar (Press Alt to see the Menu Bar momentarily; it
is Off by default. To toggle it on, press <Alt>+M,M.), there are 3 Reply
    options:

Reply to Sender - Almost always the WRONG choice in newsgroups; this sends
an EMAIL to the person to whom you are responding. :>(

Reply to All - Almost always the WRONG choice; this sends BOTH an email and
    a newsgroup post. :>(

Reply to Group - Almost always the RIGHT choice! This posts your message to
the newsgroup where you read the post to which you are responding. ;<)

When you right-click on the Toolbar and choose Customize Toolbar, you have
two Reply button options. One says simply "Reply"; this is equivalent to
Reply to Sender; please remove this from the News Toolbar. Replace it with
    "Reply group".

You are successfully posting and replying here using with WLM. Is the
problem only with your college news server?

As for the "pink/red type figure" is supposed to appear on message that
you replied to, but it should be on the page icon at the start of the
subject, not over the message text itself. Are you not getting the
    little page icon?

    Hi, Teresa.

I got your email. :>( Please do not use email to reply to a newsgroup
    thread! Netiquette frowns on that.

    > It does not work.... I did that last night....
What does not work? You did what last night?

Since we can't look over your shoulder, you must tell us EXACTLY what you
did - step by step - and EXACTLY what results you saw, including any error
messages VERBATIM. "Tried that" doesn't tell us anything; neither does
"didn't work". "Tried that" leaves us wondering if you misunderstood what
we said - and did what you thought we said. And "didn't work" doesn't tell
us how it failed - at what point - so we have no clue which of our
    instructions might have been wrong.

    > this newsgroup will work with reply and then today it will not.... so now
    > I am using the reply to group....
As I said, Reply to Group is the ONLY correct way to reply in a newsgroup.

When you are reading a message and you click Actions on the Menu bar, if you
see "Reply to group" greyed out, that means you are in Mail, not News, and
you can send only an email, not a newsgroup post.

But, I don't understand: You keep saying that your messages don't go
through - but we see at least some of them.

    Your first post said:

    > I have checked and rechecked my newsgroup settings. The college states
    > that I have the correct settings/ports and all the right check boxes
    > checked.
Please tell US the newsgroup settings you are using; we may be able to spot
    the problem.
