I'm not able to add birthdays to the birthday calendar.

Do I need to delete the birthday calendar?
Then create a new calendar and name it Birthdays?

The birthday calendar is populated from the birthday data in the contacts
information. So you have to add the birthday to the contact. Then log in
with a Live ID, to sync the calendar with the server. Sometimes it takes
a while for the added birthday to show up in the calendar.

Whenever you add birthday information in your contact list, it appears in your calendar. But now you can also add birthdays right
from inside the birthday calendar (and they’ll automatically sync with your contact list)

Note:
1. Birth dates can only be entered in the web interface
2. When adding a birthday for a person that is not in one's contacts list, a new contact entry will be created(viewable at
contacts.live.com or people.live.com). The contact will contain data for the name and birth date entered.
3. After a sync using that Live ID(manually or program open) in WLM the contact(in #2) will appear in the WLM contact list.
