I'm using Outlook for my email and Windows Live for newsgroups. Is there a
way to make Newsgroups the default startup choice when starting Windows Live
Mail?

Either alter the short cut that you use to WLM or create a new short cut
with this command line

"C:\Program Files\Windows Live\Mail\wlmail.exe" /news
