Hi, Tom.
HOW are you trying to copy your 20 GB store folder to your external hard
disk?
Are you using Windows Explorer? Have you tried Xcopy or RoboCopy? Or
Windows Easy Transfer? Is there any consistency to your "bombing out on
certain files"? In other words, is it the same file(s) every time? Or the
same type(s) of file?
As you probably know, unlike OE's .dbx files, WLM's messages are stored as
individual .eml and .nws files. OE used the Folders.dbx file to organize
all the other .dbx files; Folders.dbx must be included when copying the OE
store folder.
Similarly - but not identically - the Mail.MSMessageStore file should be
moved along with WLM's message files, although WLM does have the ability to
rebuild its index if that file is missing.
The best way to move the entire store would probably be with side-by-side
Windows Explorer windows. Right-click on the existing store folder - the
folder name itself, not a file or subfolder within the top folder - and drag
that whole folder to the new location on the external hard disk. Then
release the mouse button and choose "Copy here" from the context menu. (I'm
using Win7 but WinXP works exactly the same way, as I recall.) Then, of
course, be patient; it can take a long time to move 20 GB.
(Personally, I probably would open a Command Prompt window and use "Xcopy /c
/h /e /r /k". While Xcopy has been deprecated in favor of RoboCopy in
recent years, I learned to use that command with that set of switches long
ago and it still works for me in almost all cases. I've moved entire boot
volumes that way and booted into those volumes in their new locations.)
