I use WL Mail to access my AOL mail accounts (IMAP setting). Upon closing WL
Mail every time, a box would pop up saying it was Purging folders, and 30
seconds later an error message would say it could not since the server
disconnected prior to finishing the task. Thanks to help from a number of
folks in here, I was able to solve the problem.
Here were Winston's comments that fixed the problem for me:
"Configuration settings for 'purging' messages associated with an IMAP
account can be found in WLM on its 'Maintenance' tab
- Tools/Options/Advanced/Maintenance
What are your settings for both 'Purge' items (Deleted messages and
Newsgroup) ? Consider unchecking both
Uncheck 'Use Deleted Items folder on for IMAP accounts
(Tools/Options/Advanced) -this option has been know to interfere with 'Purge'
for AOL accounts
Set the counter to 1 (Tools/Options/Advanced/Maintenance tab) - Compact the
database on Shutdown. (Be certain to click APPLY prior to clicking OK.)
Ensure you are in Mail mode, then exit by File/Work Offline/File/Exit. WLM
should prompt to compact..agree to it and do not interrupt it. Once done,
open WLM, File/Work Online and retest."
(Make sure to reset the counter -- default setting is 100.) After
completing these steps, I no longer get the Purging folders task, or the
error message! After downloading an updated version of WL Mail, make certain
the "Use deleted items folder for IMAP accounts" is still unchecked. I did
an update, and by default, it put a check mark in there again.
