QUES: There was an Error Opening this Message??

    Hi...

I've a friend who's running Windows-7 and Windows Live Mail (WLM) since
    about Christmas.

Lately she's trying to read her email and has been getting a "There was an
error opening this message" window. She can read most mail messages but not
    others.

I've copied the entire "Windows Live Mail" folder to desktop and WLM said it
was rebuilding but I couldn't IMPORT much back in. I also deleted the
windows message store file; again it was rebuilt but went back to not
opening the same messages as before. Google shows others have had this
    issue but no fixes??

Anyone here have any ideas on how to fix this???

    Thanks in advance,
    Steve

Sounds like those messages are corrupt. Skip them or get more details on
them. E.g. open them with Notepad.

    Hi Steve,

My guess is they are corrupted. (Same as Mr. Aldwinckle thinking).

Select the email message (without opening it).

On the Edit menu, select the Copy option. Does this cause an error message?

Open Notepad. Paste from the clipboard. Does this cause an error message? Is
    the message all garbled?

Another idea. Right-click on the email message, and select Properties. Then
select the Details tab, and then click the Message Source button. Does this
cause an error message? Is the message all garbled? It should have a
somewhat readable header (except for the message-ID), and the message body
    may be using HTML.

Did this give you any clues?

If the messages are corrupted, then you need to just delete them.

If you are getting corrupted messages regularly, there may be something
wrong with your router or modem or your network card, or cabling. I had a
client who had a similar problem. I couldn't imagine what the problem could
be. Then I noticed he had his router in a little cabinet under the desk. I
opened it and it was too hot to touch. I put it on the desk to cool off. It
    fixed the problem.

What kind of Internet service do you have? Are you using a wireless router?

    Bob.

Another technique for getting that display: use Forward as Attachment and
then drag the attachment to an open Notepad window. ; )

    FYI

Sounds like your message store database is corrupted.
Try a manual run of the message store compaction. Go to Tools, Options,
Advanced, Maintenance, and change the "100" runs to 1. Close Windows Live Mail,
which will then prompt you to allow a space compaction; do so, and let it complete.
When you reopen Windows Live Mail, be sure to change that setting back to
    100 runs.
