| | Error when Groove 2007 Launched Windows Live Messenger is set to not automatically run at Windows Startup. I rarely open Windows Live Messenger. I needed to install it when I installed both a Microsoft LifeCam and Headset. Yet, when I launch Groove 2007 (even with having not started Windows Live Messenger), I receive the following error message: Windows Live Messenger has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience. When I open up what will be sent to Microsoft, I see the following: AppName: msnmsgr.exe AppVer: 8.1.178.0 AppStamp:45b12d6a ModName: tiptsf.dll ModVer: 1.7.2600.2663 ModStamp:426de15a fDebug: 0 Offset: 00007c4c Any help in resolving this will be greatly appreciated. Sincerely, Ken Shafer |

| | Re: Error when Groove 2007 Launched Greetings Ken, Groove does have Messenger integration, which is why you're seeing this. The tiptsf.dll is part of the Tablet PC Inout Panel (known as the 'tip'). What Windows version are you using exactly? As a first attempt though, you might try updating Messenger to 8.5, as this may directly or indirectly fix the problem: http://get.live.com/WL/all -- Jonathan Kay Microsoft MVP - Windows Live Messenger/MSN Messenger/Windows Messenger Associate Expert http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/expertzone/ Messenger Resources - http://messenger.jonathankay.com All posts unless otherwise specified are (c) 2007 Jonathan Kay. | | Re: Error when Groove 2007 Launched Jonathan, Thanks for the reply. I downloaded and installed Windows Live Messenger 8.5 yesterday. Groove opened fine after that yesterday, even after restarting the computer. Also launched fine this morning. I logged off and went to lunch. When I returned and launched Groove this afternoon, the Messenger error returned. Unfortunately, I didn't capture the error information as I did before. I did notice a related entry in the Application log: Event ID: 1000 Source: Windows Live Messenger The following information is part of the event: msnmsgr.exe, 8.5.1302.1018, 4717a53b, tiptsf.dll, 1.7.2600.2663, 426de15a, 0, 00007c4c. I'm using Windows XP Tablet PC Edition 2005, Service Pack 2.
