Mesenger Log In

Hi All

It has been about 2 weeks that I have not been able to log onto Live
Messenger.

I have tried all sorts of fixes, uninstalling, deleting, re-installing,
downgrading to different versions that then tell me I cannot use Messenger
unless it is upgraded to the latest version.

I have also searched the Web endlessly and tried different suggested
registry fixes, deleted keys etc.

I have also tried Jonathan Kay's registry patch, but all of this is no
avail. I still cannot log on - All I get the endless BUDDIES rotation away,
no messages as to what is happening Zilch information.

I am running Vista Home Premium, and have been a Messenger user for
years....

Anyone have any ideas how I can get this fixed, or do I need to do a full
and total Vista reinstall?

Any help is gratefully received.

Kind Regards

DAVID

RE: Mesenger Log In

Since a few days ago I'm having the same problem as you, David.

It looks like a software problem to me, because it occurs only on my desktop
PC, while on laptop everything works great.

Both PCs are conected to my same home network, both access Internet through
my ADSL modem/router, both PCs are running Vista Ultimate. The only
difference is that laptop connects to the router via wireless, while desktop
uses UTP cable [I doubt this could be an issue].

As I said, the problem started like 3 days ago. While Skype and GoogleTalk
still work fine, Live Messenger and ICQ just can't connect. Internet works
just fine and logging to webmessenger still works fine. On laptop, all 4 IM
programs [WLM, Skype, GTalk, ICQ] work perfectly.

I tried reinstalling WLM, downgrading WLM, disabling Windows firewall,
removing MSNMessenger registry folder, but it always happen the same on
desktop PC: endless attempts to sign in, without any error message.

Does anybody know how to solve this?

Thanks
Boban

Re: Mesenger Log In

Boban,

Thanks for that. My laptop still works fine with MSN too.....
I understand the issues - It is very frustrating.

Surely Microsoft are aware of this as it seems to be a common problem all
over The Net and many have had the same issue.

Why is Bill Gates not giving us a fix.

At this rate, I will be migrating to Yahoo, or MirC in the very near future,
as I am sure thousands and thousands of others will be.....

Re: Mesenger Log In

Boban, David,

Hmm.. I unfortunately encountered this problem as well just now. Once I sign
in to any of my accounts and see my contact list, an error would appear
saying it needs to close but it does not have an error number. It says it
could send an error report but I'm not sure if that works or not. Same as you
guys I have a laptop as well and yes WLM works on my laptop. My laptop is
Vista Basic and my computer is Windows XP. I've tried uninstalling but failed
with no success. If you guys find a way to fix this problem, please share
ASAP. Thank you in advance

I do not get any error messages - All that happens is the sign on screen
with the spinning buddies stays there forever and never logs on......

Re: Mesenger Log In

Jonathan,

It was a registry patch that I think intended to reset the Live Messenger
settings to a zero state.

I cannot at this time remember what the patch was/is called.
