Quad core and W.L.M.

Is there any advantage to using a quad-core processor over a dual-core when
using W.L.M.? From what I understand, W.L.M. is threaded and would benefit
from using a dual-core, but I was wondering if a quad-core would be even
better with W.L.M. than a dual-core.

What on Earth do you need a dual-core, let alone a quad-core. processor to
run a program like Messenger for? Is it a particularly busy version of
Messenger? Does it deal with lots of information, that other Messengers
don't?

Of course it will run faster, but you won't notice any difference because
it's not a slow piece of software to start with.

Re: Quad core and W.L.M.

well, it runs a little choppy now on my Intel Pentium 4 @3GHz with
Hyper-Threading Technology single-core processor when I do a video and audio
chat, so I was hoping to see improvements with my next build in which I am
trying to decide between a dual-core or quad-core processor. W.L.M. (with
the video/audio chat) is one program which is critical for me which I use
because that is how I frequently communicate with my 3 sisters who all live
in different states so if a quad-core will make it perform better than a
dual-core it might help me lean towards getting the quad-core.

Re: Quad core and W.L.M.

Greetings,

Yes, a little bit -- but quad-core isn't going to change your Messenger experience very much.
The performance of general stuff (opening windows, typing, etc.) won't change at all.
