Most services automatically check for problems, and reports them to a
webpage.
I'm sure Microsoft has the expertise for this?

: Hi,
:
: For the status to be updated, it has to be a global problem and exist for
a good period of
: time. I have actually seen it change in the past two or three years as
opposed to before
: when it never ever changed.
:
: I do some work for an online service which also has a blog and I'm often
the one to update it
: when there's an outage or issue. If the problem can be fixed within a few
minutes, it
: usually doesn't get posted as I'm busy fixing the problem as opposed to
writing blog entries.
: So I can see both sides of the coin.
