Windows Live Messenger 8.5 & Outlook 2007

I'm using Outlook 2007 on an Exchange 2003 server for email and would like to
enable the option see instant messenger contacts online. However, the
Persons Names options (both) Display online status next to a person name &
Display online status in the To and cc fields when mouse pointer rests on a
person name are grayed out. Is there any way to enable these? Is there a
registry key that needs to be enabled?

The exact option in question is under Tools, Options, Other tab, at the very last group
entitled "Person names".

Re: Windows Live Messenger 8.5 & Outlook 2007

It's weird. Two days ago both of these options were grayed out and
unchecked. Today, both options are checked.

Re: Windows Live Messenger 8.5 & Outlook 2007

So what did you do to get them enabled again? was was installed, reinstalled, uninstalled, fixed, updated? I have the same issue. Both are greyed out and its bugging the heck outta me.
  • I had communicator installed - that has been uninstalled
  • I had the old messenger installed - that has been uninstalled
  • I re-installed Live Messenger
  • I installed some of th eOutlook Addins for Live Messenger - and taken out after they didn't work
...all to no avail.

RE: Windows Live Messenger 8.5 & Outlook 2007

To enable "Display online status next to a person name" :
HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Office\12.0\common/personamenu/enabled=1

To enable display online status in the To and CC fields:
HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Office\12.0\Outlook\IM\EnablePresence=1
