Re: who answers these besides Jonathan?

Greetings Susie,

Well whoever comes by

The newsgroup is considered "peer to peer support", in other words, people helping other
people. If I personally don't answer a specific post it's either because I don't know or
don't have time to properly research or do the testing necessary to give an accurate or
useful answer.

So, I don't have anything against Susie or the female gender (most days anyway), so I
apologize if it seemed that way, as it was not my intention.

Anyway, your question. Basically what you're saying is that you're typing back and forth to
your contacts and they're not receiving you and you're not receiving them. It's inconsistent
too judging from what you've said (aka it works sometimes).

As Good News said in a previous post, we really need more information. For example, what
version of Messenger are you using, what version of Windows you're using, and what is your
networking scenario? By networking scenario I mean are you at home or at work, are you using
a router, Cable/DSL, and any third-party firewall applications (Norton Firewall, ZoneAlarm
etc.). I realize you may or may not know all this but any info would be helpful to at least
get started in some things you can try to try to solve the problem.

Re: who answers these besides Jonathan?

Hi Susie,

Gotcha, that rules out most of the more general possibilities. Another thing to check is if
you're directly connected to the service or not. You can check by clicking the Tools menu,
then Options, then Connection category and after giving it a few seconds to fully enumerate,
see what it has to say about your particular networking scenario.

Then just post the results back of what's listed there.

Re: who answers these besides Jonathan?

Hi Jonathan... I checked that connection and it say :

You are directly connected to .NET Messenger Service
You are connected to the internet through wired network
You are connected to the internet using a direct connection

Thats the 3 things that came up . Is that all ok ? I have no clue lol

Thanks Susie

Re: who answers these besides Jonathan?

Hi Susie,

So that rules out a lot of problems. You effectively have a "normal" configuration
(exciting, huh?).

Unfortunately that means I'm running out of ideas. I assume this is a continuing problem for
you as otherwise you probably would have given up on me. A note though, do you happen to use
the handwriting at all -- where you click the tab at the bottom of the conversation window
and draw to your contact? If so, this commonly with disrupt Messenger from sending messages
after awhile and then you need to right-click on the Messenger icon in the notification area
(the area by the clock) choose Exit and then run Messenger again.

Also, just for the sake of testing, the next time this seems to be happening to you, follow
the same procedure and see if it starts working again when you sign back in.
