| | .net messenger I had .net messenger on recently and it was connecting automatically with the live mail. My automatic connection is uncheck (as I checked after a JKay answer). The messenger is a lot better the last couple of years but this one was still just a chatbox and they ought to upgrade it with the windows one. |

| | Re: .net messenger Greetings, Glad I could be helpful. What you're referring as .NET Messenger is actually Windows Messenger (not Live). The graphic displayed in the login dialog proclaims you as logging into the .NET Messenger service (which is accurate, that's the name of the service itself), but that isn't actually the product name. Regardless, Windows Messenger is part of Windows XP and has since been discontinued. However, Windows Live Messenger, although it has a similar name, is considered a separate product and is not an upgrade to Windows Messenger. In fact you can run both at the same time. Partly for legal reasons and partly just for organizational, they can't really "upgrade" Windows Messenger even if they wanted to. It's pretty much intended that people install Live Messenger and just forget about Windows Messenger. Although I know plenty of people who are still using Windows Messenger and have no idea that there is a Live Messenger (or even refuse to install it). Windows Messenger is not included in Vista so it's pretty much been put to rest now. -- Jonathan Kay Microsoft MVP - Windows Live Messenger MSN Messenger/Windows Messenger MessengerGeek Blog: http://www.messengergeek.com Messenger Resources: http://messenger.jonathankay.com (c) 2008 Jonathan Kay - If redistributing, you must include this signature or citation -- "Munkey" <Munkey@xxxxxx> wrote in message news:B5D04D5B-546D-4BFA-9A7A-249F404F00C0@xxxxxx Quote: > I had .net messenger on recently and it was connecting automatically with the > live mail. | | Re: .net messenger thanks Jonathan but this one came with .net (or so it seemed) and uninstalled seperate to the messenger I use and had old old (no) graphics. I fixed it by removing it. It was probably the newer messenger without the looks but as it wouldnt stop connecting and stuff I thought it was much older (I did uncheck the option). I have the newer one with the weather and the adverts so its ok for me. I wonder if you are reading this again about the making of emoticons are they stored on severs only or could I make one and use it? |

| | Re: .net messenger Hi Munkey, Yes that's Windows Messenger which comes with Windows XP. It isn't a newer Messenger without the looks, it's the same client that came with the operating system when XP was released 6 years ago. The problems you had with said client are legitimate and known. There's no reason to use it. I don't know specifically what you're referring to with regards to emoticons but they are stored on your local computer and are only transferred by the server to your contacts when you use them. -- Jonathan Kay Microsoft MVP - Windows Live Messenger MSN Messenger/Windows Messenger MessengerGeek Blog: http://www.messengergeek.com Messenger Resources: http://messenger.jonathankay.com (c) 2008 Jonathan Kay - If redistributing, you must include this signature or citation -- "Munkey" <Munkey@xxxxxx> wrote in message news:C0C7EAC5-31C1-4642-B91B-200E9D30D63D@xxxxxx Quote: > > thanks Jonathan but this one came with .net (or so it seemed) and > uninstalled seperate to the messenger I use and had old old (no) graphics. | | Re: .net messenger Hi, I was just wondering how to uninstall Windows Messenger. I didn't even realize it was still on my computer, but lately it keeps signing on automatically although I am unable to find the main window (where the contacts are displayed); the only way I ever know I am signed in is if someone messages me. Every time I sign in to Windows Live Messenger, a box pops up saying I have been signed out of .NET messenger because I have been signed in at another location. I would like to uninstall Windows Messenger so that I am not constantly shown as "online." It is not listed as a program in Add/Remove Programs. I uninstalled Windows Live Messenger and downloaded a new one hoping Windows Messenger would also be uninstalled but so far nothing has worked. Do you have any advice? Thanks |

| | Re: .net messenger Hi, Windows Messenger will never uninstall itself as its part of Windows XP. To uninstall it you'll need to click the Start button, then click Run and enter: RunDll32 advpack.dll,LaunchINFSection %windir%\INF\msmsgs.inf,BLC.Remove Then click OK. -- Jonathan Kay Microsoft MVP - Windows Live Messenger MSN Messenger/Windows Messenger MessengerGeek Blog: http://www.messengergeek.com Messenger Resources: http://messenger.jonathankay.com (c) 2008 Jonathan Kay - If redistributing, you must include this signature or citation -- "Jordi" <Jordi@xxxxxx> wrote in message news:1E01ED53-4C77-4968-9823-D2C4FDF95A80@xxxxxx Quote: > Hi, > > I was just wondering how to uninstall Windows Messenger.
