No sound during video call

I have a Microsoft LifeCam VEX-3000 and Windows Live Messenger 8.5.

I installed the camera yesterday and used it in a video call with no
problem. I must have muted microphone and speakers because I lost all sound
during the call. Both the microphone and speakers work fine when running the
tuning wizard, but when I make a call, there is no sound.

Since I initially had sound, I feel sure the lost sound is due to an error
my part and not the hardware or software, but I cannot find a way to restore
the sound.

Has anyone else seen this? Any suggestions?

Re: No sound during video call

Suggestions:
1. Re-run the audio tuning wizard within Messenger.
2. Go into Control Panel | Sounds & Audio Devices applet; go to Audio tab;
verify selections for Default devices
3. Reinstall your LifeCam software; while doing this you might as well get
latest software from Microsoft website.

Note that you can establish Audio Calls separately from Video Calls (i.e.
"audio only" or "video only"). There is also a way to establish a full
(2-way) Audio/Video call (with a single click); look around in Messenger and
see if that you're clicking the wrong thing.

In the conversation window (where you're text chatting with your
counterpart), using Windows Live Messenger 8.5, there is an icon bar at the
top of the window. The third icon, a picture of a man against a screen with
a telephone receiver about to fall on his head, is the way I normally
establish a 2-way audio/video call.

There are also video icons next to the display pics on the right side of the
screen; I think they only establish 1-way video feeds (i.e. "send my
video").

Re: No sound during video call

Thank you, Ian.

Since the sound was fine in the tuning wizard, I uninstalled and reinstalled
the LifeCam software and Live Messenger. Everything works now.

Thanks again.
