I get this every time I try to get on WLM.
I have tried to reinstall all related programs for WLM but the WLM assistant
won't uninstall/change or repair.
I have a new computer that transferred from XP to Vista HOme Premium.
Help- my girlfriend is not happy!

There are at least 3 medications out there to resolve "girlfriend not
happy".
But what has this got to do with Messenger?

Re: WLM has stopped working Windows is checking for a solution to the

Greetings,

I bet.

To get the debug data, click Start then start typing:
problem reports and solutions
and then click the shortcut when it appears.

Once you get to the Problem Reports and Solutions dialog, choose "View problem history" on
the left. Scroll down to the Windows Live Messenger heading and double-click the most recent
one.

You'll be presented with a screen of debug information. Choose 'Copy to clipboard' at the
bottom and then paste it in your reply. Although sometimes this is totally useless,
sometimes it can identify the problem.

In the meantime to assist with girlfriend troubles, your girlfriend can use the WebMessenger
(http://webmessenger.msn.com) or another client like Trillian (http://www.trillian.cc),
Miranda (http://www.miranda-im.org), all of which support the .NET (Windows Live) Messenger
network.

OK- In case anyone has this happen- I believe I found the problem- after
looking through all programs, I found an older msn messenger still in
windows. It had an option to toggle the box to make it compatible with
sp2/XP- when I toggled it and restarted- messenger worked.

Re: WLM has stopped working Windows is checking for a solution to the

Hi,

That'll be Windows Messenger left over from your XP installation. The only Messenger client
that is compatible on Vista is Windows Live Messenger 8.1 or above. Previous versions of
Messenger, including MSN Messenger and Windows Messenger do not work [even with compatibility
mode].

I have to admit I haven't personally tested this upgrade scenario with regards to Windows
Messenger installed (it actually really should just have been removed).
