| | WLM crashes my PC?? Log has proof! WLM 8.5.1302.1018 on Windows XP Home SP2 (Dutch). Well, finally did find the patern: since that I am using WLM, my PC crashes at random! It *only* happens when WLM is running: Windows closes by itself and my PC is then restarting. I did check the XP log files and at the moment of the crashes, it is saying (roughly translated from Dutch) that something is written in the msnmsgr database (...\SharingMetadata\Working\database_3094_6CC_9406_950E\dfsr.db) and that is connected with ESENT. Then the next lines in the log are all with red crosses in front (right at the exact time of PC crash), all with those ESENT notices and saying something like: "Trying to read from C:\WINDOWS\system32\CatRoot2\{00AAC56B-CD44-11D0-8CC2-00C04FC295EE}\catdb with a place to 0 (0x0000000000000000) voor 4096 (0x00001000) bytes failed ....." And all the notices with the red crosses and EVENT have event ID 481. Did check on MS Support but can't find anything. But I did find 1 notice on a site where it states that that ESENT thing and errors are conected with the MSN Sharing Folders. So, I'll see if disabeling that does work. All in all, I am 100% sure due to the LOG-files that WLM is causing these crashes. Anything known about this? Menno |

Well, did some more searching and it turns out that I am not the only one (Phew! ;-)) ) Did see some more issues now and all have to do with WLM. Turns out that indeed the prob is caused by that Sharing stuff. Disabling the "Messenger Sharing Folders USN Journal Reader service" in Services should fix it. I'll wait and see. Menno |
