It is fairly simple:
While Hotmail itself is about the biggest spam source on the web, M$ has
declared war to about any other free mail provider.
From what I figured during the last 2 days of research, Hotmail has added a
whole lot of free mail providers to a list of blocked domains.
These include gmx and aol, meaning with a Live ID from these providers you
can sign in at live services such as the windows live website, but you can
NOT
- send mail from such account to any account @hotmail.com, or any of its
sub-sites such as live.com.
- sign it at Windows Messenger or Live Messenger.

I don´t know if they actually ment to disable all Messenger users with Live
ID´s from these blocked domains or maybe that´s just an unwanted side effect
of the Hotmail list.
I don´t know if they are going to fix it, but as of right now it is just
like that, if you want to use Messenger, you have to have a Live ID that is
not blocked by the Hotmail spam list.

Re: cannott sign into messenger

I finally found an answer to my problem. I have a GMX.net account and
couldn't sign in.. This explains it. I don't have an issue using another
account to sign up.. but how do I get my contacts back?? I had some crucial
ones and its gonna be hard to get them all back. Any ideas?

Re: cannott sign into messenger

You don´t have to make a new messenger account to get a new Live ID.
Even though they don´t work in Messenger anymore, you can still log in at
the Windows Live website and change the mail address there.
That keeps all your contacts and even automatically updates your address for
the contacts.
All you have to do is to get a mail address that isn´t on the blocked list.

Re: cannott sign into messenger

Hey Thomas.. I did what you asked and it worked! I'm still upset about not
being able to use my old e-mail.. but having my contacts onthe new one really
solves everything!
