Windows Live Messenger Download Problem

My laptop (Toshiba Satellite Pro M70) is running on Win XP SP2 (fully
updated), and I already have Windows Live Messenger 8.1 installed, and I'm
trying to upgrade to Windows Live Messenger 8.5 (2008), but I'm experiencing
a problem downloading and installling it from the Microsoft download site.

I downloaded and saved the installer WLinstaller.exe, which I then used in
an attempt to download & install WLM 8.5. I selected only 2 of the several
WLM options listed, that is the "Signing In" and the "Messaging" options,
with the intention perhaps of downloading and installing the others at a
later date.

The 1st problem was that the download of the first option, that is the
"Signing In" option stopped at 99%. I gave it ample time (> 30 minutes) to
compltete the last 1%, and then had to cancel the installation because I had
to go out.

The 2nd problem occurred when I got back home and tried running the
installer again to complete the download & installation the 2 selected
options, and I received the following Error Box warning :

Windows Live Installer
There was a problem with this installation. Windows Live Suite was not
installed.
System error details
Code: 0x80070652
Description: Another installation is already in progress. Complete that
installation before proceeding.

Problem is that I do not know how to complete the download & installation of
the 2 WLM 8.5 options that I had previously cancelled.

Would appreciate advice on rectifying this problem.

Thank you
Alan C. Brown

Re: Windows Live Messenger Download Problem

Correction - the 2 options I selected were "Sign-In Assistant" &
"Messenger".

Managed to get the download of the "Sign-In Assistant" restarted, but it
stuck again at 99% download.

Re: Windows Live Messenger Download Problem

Thanks very much. I downloaded WLM 8.5 from your link, saved it on my hard
drive and then installed it without any problems. Seems to be working fine.

Re: Windows Live Messenger Download Problem

Hi Alan,

Great. Once again proof that a MSI file is superior to the live installer

Re: Windows Live Messenger Download Problem

Jonathan
Normally, if possible, I avoid live installers like the plague, but with
all the problems I had been experiencing with WLM 8.1 recently, I thought I
should download from the Microsoft site, which unfortunately only offers a
live install.
