| | Unable to hear Windows Live Messenger event sounds I have installed WLM 8, with the Messenger Plus Live 4.5, and I am now unable to hear event sounds in WLM. I have uninstalled MSG Live Plus and Live Messenger, and re-installed Live Messenger without installing MSG Plus Live, and the event sounds still will not play. How can this be corrected? Do I have to clean up the entries in the registry? How can I totally remove these applications in order to try a clean installment? |

| | Re: Unable to hear Windows Live Messenger event sounds Hello, first have you tried the Tools/Audio and Video setup? Is the right device selected? In Tools/options/Alerts and Sounds, does it work if you click the play button? Is the events you want to play sound checked? If you choose browse can you see the files that are chosen for the events? Can you play the sounds outside messenger in media player? Just some things to check. // Oscar broiler wrote: Quote: > I have installed WLM 8, with the Messenger Plus Live 4.5, and I am now unable > to hear event sounds in WLM. | | Re: Unable to hear Windows Live Messenger event sounds I tired the Tools/Audio and Video setup now, just to be sure, and everything seemed to be working, I heard the test audio clip, and the right device is selected. In the Tools/options/Alerts and Sounds, every sound functions when I press the Play button, and every event I want has been checked. I also find the audio files that I have implemented, and any other sounds (i.e. music and so on) functions as normal on my computer. I just remembered that before I uninstalled WLM, I patched the Windows Live Messenger(with the MSG Plus Live also installed) with the Mess Patch (8.5.1302.1018, www.mess.be), and it worked fine for several days after this, but not knowing any possible relevance this might implicate, I probably will not hurt to add this bit of information. Thanks for your reply "Oscar" wrote: Quote: > Hello, first have you tried the Tools/Audio and Video setup? | | Re: Unable to hear Windows Live Messenger event sounds Your status doesn't happen be set to busy? (No sounds are played when status is set to busy). Does the alerts work? | | Re: Unable to hear Windows Live Messenger event sounds No, I have remained as online in status. How can I completely remove all "evidence" of Windows Live Messenger from my system in order to try a fresh install (removing entries in the registry and/or so on) ? If the problem persists, I will be forced to roll back to a backup image of my system partition, but I am hoping this problem will be resolved with a clean installment ![]() I hope you have a total WLM-removal recipe Thanks again ![]() "Oscar" wrote: Quote: > Your status doesn't happen be set to busy? | | Re: Unable to hear Windows Live Messenger event sounds Well you could try to remove the HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\MSNMessenger key (or rename it). Messenger will rebuild the key with default settings. broiler wrote: Quote: > No, I have remained as online in status. | | Re: Unable to hear Windows Live Messenger event sounds When you try to sign in after you have deleted the key you might get some strange error message that says that your id doesn't exist, if this happens click the "forget me" link, if you have many accounts it could me an idea to "forget" all of them. And try again.
