Suddenly changed to Microsoft Update from Windows since new Live messenger

Hi,
I installed the latest version of Windows Live Messenger all went
ok. then Windows update popped up for downloading updates and I now
find myself on Microsoft Update which seems to install updates for
other products such as Office. What has happened to Windows Update. I
am using XP MCE 2005.
Regards
James

Greetings James,

The latest Live Messenger utilizes Microsoft Update (just Windows Update in Vista) as an
update mechanism.

Either way, Microsoft Update has been around for awhile, but you had to select to use it
specifically. It's the same site, just with other products besides Windows on it.

Re: Suddenly changed to Microsoft Update from Windows since new Live messenger

This is a sneaky low down way for MS to turn on windows update without you
knowing anything
or having the ability to select if you want it or not.
What other disgraces happen with this dreaded buggy
slower-than-a-dead-installing live suite?

You get live sign in thingy, that runs in the background as a process, you
get a nice stupid installer
in your add remove programs, you get windows DESKTOP Search on XP if you
install the gallery...
And a lite edition of an sql server...(or something like that) all that
without MS telling you or asking you if you want these additional CRAP
installed.

What kind of crap is all this?

Why not keep them seperate simple MSI installers? Ok MSI stinks too.. better
yet why not make them all no-install or portable.. LOL

Yeah tough chance... if an MS product doesnt grab your pc like a gigantic
octopus it doesnt deserve the MS logo on it.
