| | Remote assistance in vista We're unable to connect to a vista machine requesting remote assistance. We have no problems if the machine requesting remote assistance is xp. After the request is sent, we get prompted for a password, which is then provided, and then it brings up the attempting to connect screen, as you would expect. After a few moments, we'll get "Remote assistance cannot make the connection, the person you are trying to help might have closed remote assistance." Any help would be appreciated. |

| | Re: Remote assistance in vista Greetings Steve, Remote Assistance between XP and Vista can be problematic at times. However, make sure the Vista machine is using Windows Live Messenger 8.5 (otherwise known as 2008) as 8.1 has a variety of networking issues which would prevent RA from working properly. You can check the current version by pressing Alt on the keyboard to bring up the menubar, then the Help menu, and then About. -- Jonathan Kay Microsoft MVP - Windows Live Messenger MSN Messenger/Windows Messenger MessengerGeek Blog: http://www.messengergeek.com Messenger Resources: http://messenger.jonathankay.com (c) 2008 Jonathan Kay - If redistributing, you must include this signature or citation -- "steve" <steve@xxxxxx> wrote in message news:36BD57B5-8445-4507-BC8F-08EC515B8C14@xxxxxx Quote: > We're unable to connect to a vista machine requesting remote assistance. | | Re: Remote assistance in vista actually, xp to vista seems to work ok (remote helper is xp, remote requester is vista). Its the vista to vista that seems problematic. I will verify the versions we're running tomorrow. Thanks for the tip. "Jonathan Kay [MVP]" wrote: Quote: > Greetings Steve, > > Remote Assistance between XP and Vista can be problematic at times. | | RA from XP to Vista Did you say you were able to provide RA from XP to a Vista system? Much of what I have found on this subject suggests that it is not possible, because a 'class' required by XP RA is not present in the Vista registry. |
