delete the old version manually no change i download a file shredder and
shred the file its not there anymore but the program is still installed in
my add remove programs window and is unremovable i do a restoreto a previous
point to recover the program to its pre shredded state and im still unable to

Re: cant install newest version of live messenger???

Greetings Barry,

What you'll need to do is remove the bits of the old install in the registry. To do so,
download and run the Windows Installer Cleanup tool:
http://tinyurl.com/42ul9

More documentation can be found here:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/290301

It's pretty simple to use though. After the cleanup utility is installed (yes, more
installing), head over to Program Files\Windows Installer Cleanup and run the msicuu
executable. You'll be prompted with a list of installed products, including Messenger.
Just select Windows Live Messenger and choose Remove.

Now you should be able to install the latest. If you'd like a direct link to the latest
version, you can grab it here (avoiding the Live Installer stuff):
