random message/files received from my contacts

Hi

I'm using Windows Live Messenger Version 2008. Sometimes I just get a
random message from someone (actually 2 particular people) in my
contact list, with a request to accept a file (.zip file ).

I have scanned my computer with McAfee VirusScan 8.0, didnt detect any
virus.

PS. I was using Live Messenger Beta before, but now it's been upgraded
to the full Live 2008 version.

Any thoughts? Thanks in advance

Greetings Kappa,

It's more likely a virus on their computer sending it, if they have no idea they're sending
you files.

Just make sure you don't accept them.

1. First thing, uninstall the Live Messenger.

2. Get an anti virus program. If you don't have a virus scan download
AVG Free version from download.com, install it and update the virus
database.

I'd also suggest downloding SpyBot Search & Destroy and AdAware. These
two softwares are very good anit-spyware softwares.

If you already have an antivirus then it's fine.

3. Delete internet explorer cache, delete temporary internet files,
disconnect (uplug the wire) the internet and then reboot you system to
start in Safe Mode (on reboot keep pressing F8 then select Safe
Mode).

4. Now run the anti virus (in Safe Mode). Anti virus software will
delete the virus, hopefully.

5. Run the anti-spyware software (i.e., spybot, adaware)

6. Restart you system again after you have finished with the above
pain staking business of scanning.

7. Download fresh copy of live messenger.

Hopefully this should eradicate the problem.
