| | Re: Cannot initialise Windows Live Messenger Greetings, Unfortunately this one isn't a known one and there isn't much debug output you can get for this. You may want to try booting Windows into safe mode as a starting point to see if it works there. -- Jonathan Kay Microsoft MVP - Windows Live Messenger MSN Messenger/Windows Messenger MessengerGeek Blog: http://www.messengergeek.com Messenger Resources: http://messenger.jonathankay.com (c) 2008 Jonathan Kay - If redistributing, you must include this signature or citation -- "Insel_Haber" <Insel_Haber@xxxxxx> wrote in message news:C5AF53ED-B830-4823-81F9-41F24F38B2C4@xxxxxx Quote: > I have just downloaded the latest version of Windows Live Messenger, but > unfortunately it will not run. > > Error message: > The application failed to initailize properly (0xe06d7363). | | Re: Cannot initialise Windows Live Messenger Interestingly I was able to start Messenger from the MSN website by clicking on the Messenger link on top. Furthermore messenger starts automatically from "run" entry in the registry without problems. But when I click on the shortcut to start it from desktop it gives the same error. In the past I never had this problem. If messenger is already running it simply switched to it if I clicked it again. I suspect that some file is being locked when Messenger starts and starting again will not allow to access the file second time. I believe this is a bug and would like others to check and confirm this? I am running Messenger 8.5.1302.1018 Version... Good day and thanks for the feedback. | | Re: Cannot initialise Windows Live Messenger Hi, What happens if you go into the \Program Files\Windows Live\Messenger folder and run the msnmsgr.exe executable directly there? If that works, just make a new shortcut to replace the old and that should be a suitable workaround. The default shortcut created is a Windows Installer shortcut as opposed to a direct one, and its initialization might be the only problem. -- Jonathan Kay Microsoft MVP - Windows Live Messenger MSN Messenger/Windows Messenger MessengerGeek Blog: http://www.messengergeek.com Messenger Resources: http://messenger.jonathankay.com (c) 2008 Jonathan Kay - If redistributing, you must include this signature or citation -- "OneWorld4All" <akayhasan@xxxxxx> wrote in message news:b55541ec-a088-48b8-acb6-025cd81a70ee@xxxxxx Quote: > Interestingly I was able to start Messenger from the MSN website by > clicking on the Messenger link on top. | | Re: Cannot initialise Windows Live Messenger Good thinking but I have enough experience about these things that I already tried it. The Run entry points the the same executable as the shortcut. I tried both running from the original location or the shortcut with same result. Another interesting tidbit is that if I close Messenger and try to start it again it gives same error. So it must be leaving a process in memory that prevents it running again....Go figure???? I never had this problem with the earlier versions of Messenger...
