Live Messenger and Vista SP1

Whenever I start Live Messenger I get the following:

(The installer has encountered an unexpected error installing this package.
This may indicate a problem with this package. The error code is 2771. [OK])

After clicking OK the program loads and work fine. This started happening
after installing Vista SP1.

Re: Live Messenger and Vista SP1

I have the same problem after installing Vista SP1 . . . Yes, it appears that
we can uninstall and reinstall . . . but it would be nice if Microsoft
provided a fix for this bug that kept the user from having to work harder
just because the user installs a Microsoft update (sp1).

Re: Live Messenger and Vista SP1

Found this on a website and worked for me after installed the Vista SP1. I
was having singing in problem issues to messenger.

I edit the registry with below information and it worked, didn't have to
restart windows to work.

A fix for Windows Live Messenger sign-in issues
Published October 18, 2006 by Ed Bott

About a month ago, Brandon LeBlanc wrote about his problems signing in to
the Windows Live Messenger network. Last week, it began happening to me. I
was able to install the Messenger client software on another computer and
sign in, but on my main system, even uninstalling and reinstalling wouldn’t
fix the problem. And Brandon says he’s still getting “tons of comments” left
on the original post.

Yesterday, I sent a note to support and got the suggested fix within a few
hours. Open Regedit and delete the following key:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\MSNMessenger\Policies

After doing that, I was able to sign in again. If you’re having this
problem, maybe the same fix will work for you.
