My Shared Folders

Using version 8.5 of messenger. I'm trying to remove My Shared Folders

I have tried to unregister the dll, which does work until the next time I
reboot then Windos Installer automatically adds it back again.

How do I remove it once and for all ?

Re: My Shared Folders

Greetings,

The easiest thing to do is just to open up any Messenger window, press Alt on the keyboard to
activate the menu bar, choose the Tools menu, then Options, then Sharing Folders category and
just turn the feature off.

Now, given your response, you might be trying to do something in a corporate environment? In
that case (and you can do this regardless actually), just open up Services and disable the
Messenger Sharing Folders USN Journal Reader service from ever running. The feature won't
activate without it.

Re: My Shared Folders

Turning the feature off and also disabling the service does not remove these
folders.

Unregistering fsshext...dll doesn't work.
regsvr32 -u "C:\Program Files\Windows
Live\Messenger\fsshext.8.5.1302.1018.dll"

Repairing Windows Live Messenger doesn't work.

Removing Windows Live Messenger because it's a POS... works!

Re: My Shared Folders

Jonathan,

I have read all the threads on sharing folders and still can find no reolve.
I have done everything you have suggested for others but continue to be
unable to set up sharing folders. When I rebuild they seem to work but upon
closing and trying to reopen a sharing folder it asks if I want to create
one???
