Windows Live Messenger Fails to Start

good morning all,

problem is this: i install windows live messenger and though during
installation everything seems smooth , when i try to start the program , it
sais that wlm fails to initialize. No error code, though that could be that i
do not have the english version of windows. problem started after a fatal
error of windows (one of these %$%^ blue screens), till now i have been using
wlm and never had any issues. i tried reinstallation, uninstalled wlm
add-ons, i cant start wlm even in safe mode, it's not a firewall issue
either, i do NOT own a sony vaio, and i dont really think it's a virus
because some scans with a couple of programmas showed nothing. i even tried
installing some c++ libraries that someone in a forum said might help.
everything else in my system seems to be working all right. Got windows XP
sp2. any suggestion except formating my disk , slashing it with an axe or
commiting suicide? thnx in advance

i just tried WLM 8.5 lite portable and it works fine! But i hope to use it
as a temporary solution... omfg whoever can figure out what's wrong with my
pc is the god of computers

sry for there being 3 posts instead of just 1 , but the plot thickens... when
i install windows live messenger 8.1 (which as said before will not start),
it is installed at c:\program files\msn messenger instead of c:\program
files\windows live .
weird huh? also i canNOT install windows live installer (error code for this
is 0x800736b1). Any help and i will be eternally grateful

Sometimes it works, but usually crash, any suggesion?
