Vista Tutorial - Install Windows Live Messenger Fails

I've read the posts, and can't find a similar problem. I uninstalled WLM via
Control panel. Am trying to reinstall. Here's what happens:

I click Download on WLM 8.1. Select Run. Finishes. Opens the Windows Live
home page. When I try to open Messenger from there, it routes me back to the
"install it for free" page. I click install..... the loop starts all over
again.

Any ideas?

Oh, and if I try to install Windows Messenger 5.1, it also fails and gives
me errors.

Just to be clear, what do you mean by "open Messenger from there"? Do you mean the Windows
Live home page?

If so, the web page cannot spawn Messenger, you have to start it yourself from the Start
menu.

I had to install a new hard drive. I have the Microsoft disc to load Life Cam
1.1. For some reason it take me to the web site to DL Windows Live Mesenger,
Windows Live Messenger fails to DL. Why can't Microsoft just have the
program on the disc that comes with the video cam . It worked fine on my old
HD.
