Hi Jonathan,
Your solution works fine for me for the first time, and I managed to sign in for not more than 2 hours before I got disconnected again. This time, I followed exactly the steps but it doesn't work already even if i deleted my internet files and ran your application - rebooting my pc doesnt help either on solving the problem. What should I do now?? Please help. "Jonathan Kay [MVP]" wrote:

Hi,
Firstly, make sure you're using the latest Messenger version -- what's described here was for a problem that's been long since fixed. http://get.live.com/messenger/config However, if you're being disconnected, there could be a network problem. Hi JK,
It shouldnt be the network problem. I'm logging in from my work PC in my office and my colleagues have tried to log in to MSN from my PC and they are able to do. I've also tried to log in from my colleague's work PCs and it worked perfectly fine - just me that I cant login to my MSN account from mine work PC how sad.I have tried to reinstall my MSN Messenger from http://get.live.com/messenger/overview since the problem has first occurred. Prior to the problem of signing it (when my Messenger was still working fine), I noticed that whenever I clicked on the mail icon in messenger to go to my Hotmail account, it prompted me to key in my password, stating that my password was incorrect. It is strange that I typed the same password to log in to my messenger but when I clicked the mail icon in messenger to go to Hotmail, it claimed that my password was wrong - isn't it supposed to be single sign on and my password should be correct by then? Could this be the cause of my problem in signing into Messenger? I still could not sign in to Messnger after so long. I have attempted to log in(although still failed) but I noticed that whenever I type my password (consists of 7 asterisks), it will turned into 9 asterisks (which was my old password) when the two buddy started spinning. Do these two problems contribute to my difficulties in signin in to messenger? Many many thanks! "Jonathan Kay [MVP]" wrote:

Hi,
Ah, gotcha. No, neither problem really would affect your login to Messenger. In terms of the Hotmail thing, you might just have the option on to prompt you or you simply need to clear your Internet Explorer cookies. The 9 asterisks you're seeing is by design for any saved password in Messenger -- it's just to obfuscate the real length of your password. Now, there is one other thing to try and although this really shouldn't be an issue in the current version of Windows Live Messenger, it's worth a shot anyway. With Messenger closed, click Start, then Run (if you're using Vista, just paste it in the search box in the start menu), and paste the following: %userprofile%\local settings\Application Data\microsoft then hit Enter. In the folder that opens, right-click Messenger and rename it to Messenger_. Then rename the Windows Live Contacts folder to Windows Live Contacts_. Now start Messenger and try and sign in. -- Jonathan Kay Microsoft MVP - Windows Live Messenger MSN Messenger/Windows Messenger MessengerGeek Blog: http://www.messengergeek.com Messenger Resources: http://messenger.jonathankay.com (c) 2008 Jonathan Kay - If redistributing, you must include this signature or citation -- "Cowie611" <Cowie611@xxxxxx> wrote in message news:C77F7C41-61B1-4154-AEDE-57C6BA3F747C@xxxxxx

Hi JK,
I've tried using your proposed solution last week Monday and it doesnt help. Then, i decided to give up on signing in. Right after not signing in from my work PC for more than a week, I tried to log in again yesterday and surprisingly, i could! However, all my emoticons were gone and all my group contact gone haywire. Today, when I tried to log in again - the same old problem reoccur. I failed to log in AGAIN! *sigh* Could you please advise? Thanks. "Jonathan Kay [MVP]" wrote:
