Can't send message containing ".exe"

Hello all,

If I try to send an MSN message to a colleague and the text contains the
sequence "setup.exe" the message is not sent. No error is seen at my end,
but the message does not get to the recipient.

eg:

j:/12.0.ports/obj/installs/win/64/unicode/winapi/dev/dbg/files/setup.exe //
fails
j:/12.0.ports/obj/installs/win/64/unicode/winapi/dev/dbg/files/setup.exe/stuff
// fails
j:/12.0.ports/obj/installs/win/64/unicode/winapi/dev/dbg/files/setup.ex //
works
j:/12.0.ports/obj/installs/win/64/unicode/winapi/dev/dbg/files/setup.ex/stuff
// works
j:/12.0.ports/obj/installs/win/64/unicode/winapi/dev/dbg/files/setp.exe //
works

Any reason for this? How can I fix it?

Cheers,

john.

Re: Can't send message containing ".exe"

Greetings John,

There's a number of rules which enforce spams and malware from spreading against Messenger
and you've obviously just hit one.

There's nothing you can do but obfuscate the links.

Re: Can't send message containing ".exe"

Thanks Jonathan,

I did find some lists of banned sequences online, none of them mentioned
setup.exe, but I guess you are correct. A bit annoying if you ask me,
especially that at my end I got no notification that the message was not
going to get through. It's only text after all.

/john

Re: Can't send message containing ".exe"

Hi,

You can do one thing rename all these files to i.e abc.exe1 and then send it to sender and mention a not there the person who is going to use these files rename these files from abc.exe1 to abc.exe

Thanks
