Change of Passport Email Address?

    Change of Passport Email Address?

About 18 hours ago I went and changed my passport email address and was told
through a prompt that it might take an hour to move all my contacts and not
to log onto Windows Messenger Live.

So not a problem, as it was later afternoon, so I turned Windows Messenger
Live off and went home. Now I log on, using my new email and Windows
Messenger Live logs me online fine, and all my contacts are there, but they
are all offline, even those who I know are online as they sit less than 2mtrs
away from me, and when they send me a message or vice versa, it shows up as
    an offline message...?

What did I do wrong? and more importantly, what do I do now to get back
    connectivity with all my contacts?

    Thank you for your time!!!
    Cyrus Bharda

Yesterday I changed my passort email address and now on Windows Messenger
Live I cannot see my contacts online nor they me.

    Greetings Cyrus,

Sometimes it can actually take a few days -- I've never really seen it done in an hour.

If it's still a problem a day from now, I'd suggest switching it back if possible and trying
again. Some people have to do it a second time for it to go through for some reason.

    Gday Jonathan,

Well this moring (local time which is GMT+10) I logged in, still nothing,
and now it is 2pm local time, and I have 1 online contact, the only yahoo IM
I have on my msn list, is there, and he see's me online and we can
communicate, so i am guessing the move is happening, just slowly, will just
sit tight and wait it out I think.

Still, funny how as soon as I was offline for 24 hours + I was receiving
worried emails, "Where are you?" "Are you OK?"

Guess I'd better turn Live Messenger back off and check tomorrow

    Thanks for your help,
    Cy

    Hi Cy,

I'm not sure if you read any of the other threads but someone else also had a similar problem
so it sounds like it is being rather slow recently (or not working properly). Hopefully
things will work out as this must be painfully annoying... I know I wouldn't tolerate it

Re: Change of Passport Email Address?

    GDay Jonathan,

Yeah well I have been using MSN since, hmmm well a bloody long time, and
never had an issue with it really. So when I found the option of changing my
email address I thought, great. Mainly because of the fact that the email I
had used to register was I used way back some time in the 90's which I am
sure has long since not existed. Having Microsoft state that this might take
an hour, when realistically it takes days, well, no offense, but doesnt
really surprise me from Microsoft, just yet another let down. Admittedly a
first for what I thought was one of the best IM's out there. That said I have
not really used any other IM's, because I have not need to look for something
    better.

When Microsoft took on yahoo and added in support for the two to interact
with each other was great, and I would love to see more IM programs being
able to talk to each other, of which I highly doubt will happen due to the
loss of market share each might have if they all communicated with each other.

Anyway, I really do appreciate your advise, and just checked and it seems I
shall be waiting a bit longer at this stage, and I will leave it over the
weekend and if nothing is seen to work on monday then I'll have to revert
back, I am just hoping that it works, albeit slow.

    Cheers,
    Cy

Well here we are, Monday morning, local time, and it seems the only working
contact on my list is still the sole yahoo messenger contact I have, looks
like I'll be swapping back, leaving it a week and then trying again I guess

    Cheers,

Re: Change of Passport Email Address?

I'm having exactly the same problem here.

I changed my windows live id main e-mail this morning and passed through the
'e-mail verification' process a bunch of hours after the change.

That was at noon. Hoping to see all the process finished in one hour time as
Microsoft says... but 18 hours passed till the modification and I keep seeing
    all my contacts offline.

I see you are being five days till now with this... discouraging :-(

Re: Change of Passport Email Address?

    GDay Enrique,

Yeah i waited 4 days until I had to change it back. But lucky that about
1.5hours after i changed it back to my original email, it all worked again
and i got like 50 offline messages all at once

I am going to try this again, but on a friday afternoon and leave it until
modnay morning because apparently sometimes it takes up to 2 days for the
change to filter through the bowels of Microsoft. And other times it does not
    work at all.

So will post updates when i try again, and please let us know if yours
    worked too

    cheers,
    Cy
