Sharing Music/sounds on IM

Is it possible to share the sounds/music that I am listening to from
- a CD, being played on my computer
- during Instant Messaging w/ my IM partner

So that we may both listen to the same music, at the same time during our
instant messaging with each other?

Re: Sharing Music/sounds on IM

Greetings Annie,

There is the Music Mix activity, but that only covers music files you have on your hard
drive.

If you're using Windows XP and have a sound card that can record itself, then setting your
recording input in the recording mixer to Master, Wave, What U Hear (or similar input),
should produce what you want. To do so, click Start, then click Run, type in "sndvol32.exe"
and click OK. Then in the Play Control, click the Options Menu, then click Properties.
Change the option button to 'Recording' and click the checkbox next to Wave, Record Master,
Mix, What U Hear (or similar).

If you're using Vista, you can simply change to the Master, Wave, What U Hear (or something
similar) by opening up a Messenger window, press Alt to bring up the menu bar, click Tools
and then Audio and video setup. Just change the recording input there.

Then you can make a voice call and then change the input so it sends whatever is playing on
your PC to your contact. Note: you have to change the recording input after you've connected
the call however. Additionally, you could send voiceclips.

RE: Sharing Music/sounds on IM

what i normally do is start a phone call ('Call a contact') then turn my
speakers on! but then obviously the sound quality on the receiving end would
not be so great... so yeah maybe Jonathan's method is better... x's

Re: Sharing Music/sounds on IM

Hi,

That's actually not a bad solution especially if the sound card doesn't support what you need
(the one in my latest PC here doesn't for instance).
