white box

hi there,

I've just formatted my hard drive with a clean install of Vista x64 Ultimate SP1, but under my contacts display picture i seem to be getting a small white box. It doesn't appear on every contact on my list, but on most of them. Here is a screenshot:-

Click the image to open in full size.

I have no idea what it is and this is the first time i've ever seen it. I'm using the latest version of windows live messenger (8.5.1302.1018). It isn't clickable, it's just a solid white box that seems to do nothing.

Anyone have any idea what it is or how to get rid of it?.

Any help is much appreciated, thanks.

Re: werid white box

Greetings,

Normally what's shown here is an icon to indicate if the user has a webcam, if they're on
Yahoo IM or if they're using Office Communicator/federated access to Messenger.

However, this user isn't and most people are seeing this in their client today due to some
server screwup at Microsoft.

I assume it will be fixed soon. It can just be ignored for now.

Re: white box

hi Jonathan,

Thanks for the reply.

Ah right, i heard it was down to the server. That's all i wanted to know, i just thought there was something was wrong with my messenger.

It is very annoying, but at least it's not doing any harm, but hopefully they will fix it soon.

Thanks.

Re: werid white box

Just to add a bit of useless info to this, the Webcam icon just gets bumped
more to the right, but still works normally (or at least it appears to...I
haven't actually cammed with anybody today).

Re: werid white box

Hi again...

I was reading the mess.be msn messenger forum and a user replied saying.....

Quote:
FutureMillennium

CONFIRMED!

It's a new feature, if you install Live Messenger 9.0beta it will look like an Office icon:
http://i236.photobucket.com/albums/ff108/F...m/white_box.png
(It shows as a white box in older versions)

The icon doesn't do anything as of now, it acts exactly the same as the white box, but it's smaller and prettier.
NOT A VIRUS
At least we know what it is now .
