If you are signed in to Windows Live through Windows Live Mail, the e-mail button in WLMessenger will open WLMail, but if you are not 'signed in' through WLMail, then the e-mail button in WLMessenger will open Internet Explorer to your associated Hotmail account. -- Cheers, Peter.R (Windows Vista Home Premium SP1 with Windows Live Mail 12.0.1606) "There are more things in Heaven and earth, Horatio, than are dreamt of in your philosophy." - Shakespeare --------------- "Ian" <nospam@xxxxxx> wrote in message news:A2C9DB77-91A2-4FAD-94D4-D110E274584F@xxxxxx Quote: > Hello, > > I use Windows Live Messenger in conjunction with an e-mail address issued in the msn.com domain. > > When I receive an e-mail I am alerted through Messenger and I can click the "Open your e-mail inbox" button (in Messenger) to view it. | | Re: Choice of E-Mail Client in Windows Live Messenger Thanks Peter I stand corrected and learned something new. I did notice that "Not 'signed in' has a broad and unique definition. WLMsgr's email icon calls Hotmail Web UI if WLM\Tools\Options\Connections\Stop Signing In\ is activated and also if a different LiveID is used for signing on in WLM. If the same LiveID was used to sign-on in WLM as WLMsgr, then WLMsgr's email icon will still call WLM until a different Live ID is used or Stop-Signing-In is activated for that Live Id(I.e. Cancelling the Sign-on with the same id in WLM is not sufficient) The above is for Vista, I suspect it’s the same on XP, but have yet to step through it on XP. -- ...winston ms-mvp mail "Peter.R" <Peter.R@xxxxxx> wrote in message news:ez2OpHd2IHA.4492@xxxxxx Quote: > Hi Ian. > > If you are signed in to Windows Live through Windows Live Mail, the e-mail button in WLMessenger will open WLMail, but if you are > not 'signed in' through WLMail, then the e-mail button in WLMessenger will open Internet Explorer to your associated Hotmail > account. > > -- > Cheers, > Peter.R > (Windows Vista Home Premium SP1 with Windows Live Mail 12.0.1606) > "There are more things in Heaven and earth, Horatio, than are dreamt of in your philosophy." - Shakespeare > --------------- > > "Ian" <nospam@xxxxxx> wrote in message news:A2C9DB77-91A2-4FAD-94D4-D110E274584F@xxxxxx Quote: >> Hello, >> >> I use Windows Live Messenger in conjunction with an e-mail address issued in the msn.com domain. >> >> When I receive an e-mail I am alerted through Messenger and I can click the "Open your e-mail inbox" button (in Messenger) to >> view it. | | Re: Choice of E-Mail Client in Windows Live Messenger Thanks for that tip Winston, I had not considered that since I always use the same ID to sign in to WL through WLMail. I also forgot to mention that there is a registry edit that can be used whilst WLMail and WLMessenger are open and 'signed in' with the same Windows Live ID, that will break the integration between them and so cause the e-mail icon in WLMessenger to open the Web browser to the associated Hotmail account: Open regedit (Start [button]->Run...->regedit [typed]->OK [button]) Browse to the Key: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows Live\Communications Clients\Shared Double-click on the the Value named 'Mail Primary Account' Delete the Value data (which will be the Windows Live ID) for that Value. -- Cheers, Peter.R (Windows Vista Home Premium SP1 with Windows Live Mail 12.0.1606) "There are more things in Heaven and earth, Horatio, than are dreamt of in your philosophy." - Shakespeare --------------- "...winston" <winstonmvp@xxxxxx> wrote in message news:B273B8EF-EE9C-4800-BACA-6480906F2CC1@xxxxxx Quote: > Thanks Peter I stand corrected and learned something new. > > I did notice that "Not 'signed in' has a broad and unique definition. > > WLMsgr's email icon calls Hotmail Web UI if WLM\Tools\Options\Connections\Stop Signing In\ is activated and also if a different > LiveID is used for signing on in WLM. > > If the same LiveID was used to sign-on in WLM as WLMsgr, then WLMsgr's email icon will still call WLM until a different Live ID is > used or Stop-Signing-In is activated for that Live Id (I.e. | | Re: Choice of E-Mail Client in Windows Live Messenger Hi Peter.R -- When I sign into WLMessenger and see that I have Mail indicated at the mail icon, I press it and it takes me to WLMail even though the mail is not there it seems to be in WLHotmail with no way to get to WLHotmail from there. (I have never had an Hotmail or Outlook Express account and don't want either.) I tried your suggestion below of not signing into WLMail first, but the same situation happened. My recent move to VISTA has been confusing because some of my ruthfifer@xxxxxx emails go to WLMail and some go to WLHotmail seemingly arbitrarily. How can I get rid of WLHotmail? Windows Mail (for Old OE) so that all my Live.com emails go to WLMail?????? AND< from WLMessenger envelope icon, I get WLMail with ALL my emails in one spot? Thanks, RuthF. | | Re: Choice of E-Mail Client in Windows Live Messenger Hi RuthF. If you are signed into WLMessenger with your @live account, the icon in Messenger will still indicate to you when you have received e-mail in your @live account, which is in fact a Windows Live Hotmail account. I think what you are saying is that you have not set up your @live (WLHotmail) account in WLMail. As such, you cannot access the e-mail in your @live account through WLMail even though WLMail is opened when you click on the e-mail icon in WLMessenger. So to set up your @live account in WLMail, go to Tools->Accounts...->Add [button]->E-mail Account [select]->Next [button]->... Fill the appropriate fields with your @live account details then click the Next button, leaving the option to 'Manually configure server settings for e-mail account' *un-checked*. Now you can use either the web interface or WLMail to access your WLHotmail (@live) account. -- Cheers, Peter (Windows Vista Home Premium SP1 with Windows Live Mail 12.0.1606) "There are more things in Heaven and earth, Horatio, than are dreamt of in your philosophy." - Shakespeare --------------- "RuthF" <RuthF@xxxxxx> wrote in message news:9C13F1AF-16AD-4C8D-8BE9-1CCF405FE253@xxxxxx Quote: > Hi Peter.R -- Quote: > When I sign into WLMessenger and see that I have Mail indicated at the mail > icon, I press it and it takes me to WLMail even though the mail is not there > it seems to be in WLHotmail with no way to get to WLHotmail from there.
