Live Messenger Appears to Not Launch

I noticed today that my Windows Live Messenger icon wasn't in the task bar
and appears to have not launched. It is kind of strange as the msnmsgr.exe
task is running but there is no other evidence the program is running and I
can't send receive IMs. Tried IM'ing from my Windows Live Mail contacts list
and is says I need to sign in to Messenger but when it tries, nothing
happens and another instance of msnmsgr.exe appears. I've
uninstalled/reinstalled, rebooted etc but still the same thing. I'm not
getting any error messages either so it is pretty hard to find out what is
going on. The only evidence of error I get is in the ErrorResponse.xml file
in the Messenger folder. It shows the following:

Re: Live Messenger Appears to Not Launch

Greetings Don,

What you're describing is typically caused by a router actually.

Assuming this is the case, reset the router (aka unplug and plug back in) and if that doesn't
resolve it, try seeing if there's a firmware update for the router at the router
manufacturers website.
