| | Windows Live only runs in background Windows Live messenger 8.5 seems diesn't run properly on my PC (running XP). It seems to run in the background, but the program window is nowhere to be seen. I've uninstalled/re-installed the program a few times with the same result. I have also reinstalled windows. I can run the program as Administrator but this doesn't seem like a solution, as there are several users on my PC. Most have admin rights, but I don't want to give them the password to the Administrator user. Any suggestions? Thanks. Jean-Claude Saulnier |

| | Re: Windows Live only runs in background I had the same problem .. this is how I fixed mine from searching the problem on the web. Go to Services under Administrative Tools. Look for SSDP Discovery and disable it. It worked for me. | | Re: Windows Live only runs in background Thanks for the tip. However; this hasn't worked on my system and it is becoming very tiresome. I can run a system recovery back to before Windows Vista downloaded the update for Windows Live and Windows Live Sign-In Assistant. Unfortunately though, it obviously attempts to reinstall these updates and continues to go in a loop like this. I have found in the past that I have had to either download another application to use MSN directly or use a web client, which is obviously not the point of having Windows Live in the first place. Any assistance from someone with the knowledge as to why this is occurring would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.
