| | Someone else is logging on to my account!!! Hi there, I just signed up to msn messanger about a week ago. Hardly anyone knows my user name, and no one knows my password. Today a window popped up saying "you have signed on to messanger from another computer". This is very concerning to me! Can you tell me how I can protect myself? I even downloaded Secway to encrypt my messages, on the advice of one of my friends who has used messenger for years. Any ideas? |

Are you using two different computers, such as a desktop at home and a laptop at work? This will pop-up message commonly occurs, when you have signed into Messenger on the desktop and then, you leave the computer running without signing out from Messenger. If you boot your laptop and sign into Messenger, using the same identity, the system will sign you out from the first computer automatically and generate the popup message on the first machine. Your sign in identity will be based upon your hotmail.com, msn.com or live.com email address - which is hardly top secret information. However, if you receive this pop-up message and you are using one computer exclusively, then someone might have discovered your password. In that case, the remedy is to change the password immediately. Your post refers to MSN Messenger. This newsgroup deals with Windows Live Messenger, which is a different program. Consequently, a different possibility occurred to me. I wonder whether you could be running two different Messenger programs on the same computer. I really don't know whether that could happen, but it is worth checking whether your start-up configuration includes more than one Messenger program. If so, that might create duplicate sign ins. The remedy would be to uninstall one of the Messenger programs. |

| | Re: Someone else is logging on to my account!!! Hi It was saying that the Key Ports and DNS servers had an error and the trouble shooter couldn't repair them. I've checked and yes i can connect to secure sites and my clock is accurate. i've just uninstalled messenger in novice desperation to try and see if re-installing would sort out the glitch and now i can't install it again. When i try to download it from the Window's live website it says it can't install it!
