| | Windows Live Constantly Crashing on Sign-Out Hi guys, you're going to like this one. I have Windows Live Messenger (8 i believe, it is the most modern one) which i upgraded from 7 a while ago. Anyway, on to the problem, every time I close a conversation, or sign out with a conversation still on my task bar, Windows Live Freezes, and crashes, I have sent hundreds of reports to Microsoft, but nothing. This problem doesn't end there though... 9 times out of 10 the frozen Windows Live becomes a process, completely disabling Windows Live for anywhere between 5-50 minutes, by this I mean I cannot end the process using task manager, it has to do it on its own. I have tried all of Microsofts own repair systems and only one had a temporary affect, by which i mean around 45 seconds. Help Greatly appreciated because this is really starting to annoy me I thought to start with it's because this verson of Windows Live was originally designed for Vista, and I'm Running on a 2006 Xp system |

| | Re: Windows Live Constantly Crashing on Sign-Out Greetings, In general "reports" to Microsoft are for statistical data. They do fix things that they can, but in a lot of cases they can't because it's related to a third-party and unless they're a direct Microsoft partner, it can be difficult to get the problem dealt with. Given your description, Messenger is probably getting stuck on a handle that won't clear -- in most cases, this will be a third-party device (webcam, sound driver, etc.). It could also be third-party tools that are hooking into the Messenger window and holding onto it (anti-virus software, malware protection, etc.). Although with some crash dump analysis, it would be easier to determine what might be causing it but unfortunately that isn't really possible over the newsgroup medium. As such, you might want to unplug unnecessary devices and completely uninstall any anti-virus and anti-malware software (you can reinstall it later) to see if that's the problem. And no, just disabling them isn't good enough. Also, you might want to try out what happens if you use "Safe Mode with Networking" mode in Windows' startup menu since that would disable a good majority of these things; just to see if the problem exists there too. -- Jonathan Kay Microsoft MVP - Windows Live Messenger MSN Messenger/Windows Messenger MessengerGeek Blog: http://www.messengergeek.com Messenger Resources: http://messenger.jonathankay.com (c) 2008 Jonathan Kay - If redistributing, you must include this signature or citation -- "Jon" <Jon@xxxxxx> wrote in message news:6FD8BFD1-98A1-41E9-B05B-8A5055CC3978@xxxxxx Quote: > Hi guys, you're going to like this one. > I have Windows Live Messenger (8 i believe, it is the most modern one) which > i upgraded from 7 a while ago. > Anyway, on to the problem, every time I close a conversation, or sign out > with a conversation still on my task bar, Windows Live Freezes, and crashes, > I have sent hundreds of reports to Microsoft, but nothing. > This problem doesn't end there though... > 9 times out of 10 the frozen Windows Live becomes a process, completely > disabling Windows Live for anywhere between 5-50 minutes, by this I mean I > cannot end the process using task manager, it has to do it on its own. > I have tried all of Microsofts own repair systems and only one had a > temporary affect, by which i mean around 45 seconds. > Help Greatly appreciated because this is really starting to annoy me > I thought to start with it's because this verson of Windows Live was > originally designed for Vista, and I'm Running on a 2006 Xp system |
