Vista - error message

After installing SP1 for Vista Home Premium, Windows Live messenger wants to
install itself when it is already installed. I right click to open it and
that is when it goes to the installing process. After it tries to install I
get the message " it has encountered a problem with the installation" and the
error message is 2771. Then the messenger opens up where I can sign in.
Messenger version is 8.5.1302.1018. Norton Internet Security 2008 and the
firewall has been allowed for messenger. Any ideas? Thanks in advance for
any help.

It's not trying to reinstall itself actually, it's detected some sort of change to its
configuration and it's attempting to repair itself.

In most cases, you can solve problems like this by simply going to Programs in the Control
Panel and uninstalling Messenger, then reinstalling it from the Microsoft website
(http://get.live.com/messenger/config).
