| | Messenger disappears to background on startup! Windows XP SP2 Windows Live Messenger Normal user account (no admin rights!) Offfice 2000 installed For the last days, my son tries to open Messenger and the window appears quickly and then disappears. The application is running in the background as seen in Task Manager. No icon is showing in the taskbar. Starting Messenger again does the same thing. When logging off, XP complains that Messenger does not want to close and I must terminate it. This has been going on for some days now. Unfortunately, I have no idea what my son has done or tried to install in his session. I have uninstalled the application and reinstalled the latest Windows Live Messenger 2008 (downloaded yesterday). Same behavior. Anybody has seen this? Any pointers? How to revert back to default installation for Messenger? How to debug the problem? TIA Steve |

| | Re: Messenger disappears to background on startup! Greetings Steve, These types of problems can be caused by bad firmware in residential routers. If you are using a router, you may want to check with the router manufacturer's website and see if there is an update. If there is no update, at least power cycle the router (unplug, plug back in) and see if that helps. -- Jonathan Kay Microsoft MVP - Windows Live Messenger MSN Messenger/Windows Messenger MessengerGeek Blog: http://www.messengergeek.com Messenger Resources: http://messenger.jonathankay.com (c) 2008 Jonathan Kay - If redistributing, you must include this signature or citation -- <vancouvercancun@xxxxxx> wrote in message news:d5a3572e-72c1-4033-8e73-3863b3c6f45c@xxxxxx Quote: > Windows XP SP2 > Windows Live Messenger > Normal user account (no admin rights!) > Offfice 2000 installed > > For the last days, my son tries to open Messenger and the window > appears quickly and then disappears.
