Vista - Solution to the problem in Hotmail: "The e-mail address or password is incorrect. Please try again."

Hi All,

In Hotmail, you try to login, but you get the following error: "The e-mail
address or password is incorrect. Please try again." You are able to access
your account from other computers as a test and/or you may have used the
reset password feature and still can't log in.

The issue lies with the "Windows Live Sign-in Helper", and this can be
tested in IE7 by going to Tools>Internet Options>Programs>Manage
Add-ons>Windows Live Sign-in Helper and disable it. Restart IE7 and see if
you can log in. If you can, you have confirmed the problem and can move on
to the fix below.

It was not enough for me to go to Add/Remove Programs and repair the Windows
Live Sign-in Helper. I had to uninstall the Windows Live Sign-in Helper,
Live Messenger, and the Windows Live Installer. I had to reinstall them from
this page because it uses the Windows Live Installer:
http://get.live.com/messenger/overview.

I had earlier tried downloading the full Live Messenger package (Windows
Live Sign-in Helper is included) directly from the Microsoft Download
Center, but that did not include the Windows Live Installer, and there is
apparently a difference in how they each install, so it did not repair the
issue.
