Unable to sign in --- unusual error code

I have successfully used WLM Beta 9 until yesterday when I started getting
this error:

Signing in to Windows Live Messenger Beta failed because the service is
temporarily unavailable. Please try again later. Error code 8000402a

I can't find anything regarding this error code --- and I know the service
isn't "down". Can anybody help?

Greetings,

What happens if you try another account?

Re: Unable to sign in --- unusual error code

Greetings,

I've experienced the same problem; I have created a new account and it
works, but still will not let my previous account connect due to this error.
I've sent a detailed error report off to the messenger support team.

Although personally I believe that it could be a problem due to the groups;
as I created a group, then blocked and deleted one (with a bit of diffculty)

Cheers,

-Sean

Re: Unable to sign in --- unusual error code

Hi Sean,

One other test you can do to see if it's just the machine is trying another computer or if
that's not an option, just create another Windows account, log into that account and then
sign into Messenger there using the problematic Live ID.

Re: Unable to sign in --- unusual error code

I, on the other hand, am having a very unusual error as well. I decided to
try out the WLM 9 beta yesterday, and after downloading it, the installer
would freeze when trying to install it. After a series of uninstalls, failed
reinstalls and reboots, I finally got it to install properly. However, now
when I try to sign in, I simply get an error saying " "Signing into Windows
Live Messenger Beta failed because the service is temporarily unavailable.
Please try again later." Naturally, it's not working otherwise I wouldn't be
posting. Another very, very strange thing, is that I cannot downgrade my MSN.
if I uninstall WLM, and try to install 8.5, the installer crashes, saying
that Suite is not installed (Even though it is the suite installer.) If
anyone could help with this one... I would greatly appreciate it.

Cheers, Jon

Re: Unable to sign in --- unusual error code

Hi Guys I have exactly the same problem - so have many others here in France.
Error code "error 8000402a"! Can't find any resolution to this problem. 2
days now. Others on my PC have no problems signing in - just me. HELP this
is important.

RE: Unable to sign in --- unusual error code

Hi,

I was having the same problem, error code, could sign in with another
account etc. But I just exited, right clicked on task bar icon, and
restarted. I signed right back in.

Re: Unable to sign in --- unusual error code

I was having the exact same problem for many days. Then I had an idea. What if some of the other Live programs that log in to my account are causing trouble? I exited Windows Live Mail and then I was able to log into Windows Live Messenger.

I hope this works for others. Restarting WLM did not help me.
