Vista - AntiVirus in File Transfer (WLM Beta)

While a friend of my was trying me to send is latest program packed in a rar
archive, a warning came up on my Messenger: I had to set the antivirus in
order to receive the archive :S

I have an antivirus installed that verifys every file written to the hard
drive, I don't need to specify it on the messenger options. Also, this option
was turned off by my choice. Having to set it up only diminishes my user
experience. Specially if even after setting the anti-virus, I had to click
through a lot of OK buttons.

Finally, after the file transfer, there was no option to open the file from
the conversation window.

Conclusion: Yes, put a warning, but do not block it!

And since I am already writting... my favorite request: Please put
subfolders (with emails) in the My Received Files folder.. after a while it
starts to get a bit crowded...

I agree. Either auto-detect antivirus programs (unnecessary) or allow the
user to proceed by consent when attempting to send a potentially dangerous
file.

Please bring back the Sharing Folders or at least make file queueing possible.

Yes, that works but the point is that the user should be in control (look at
how the Windows team keep emphasizing it in their Engineering Windows 7
blog). Don't treat the users as idiots and think "I know what's best for
you."

Lots of modems given by our internet provider have the upnp possibility,
but it just not work. (And buying a new modem is NOT an option)

I agree with you and ups, is really annoying, in older versions including the
old version 9 betas the .zip and .rar files weren't blocked, only the .exe,
..com, and other files that can execute codes were blocked.

Also even when you set an antivirus is annoying to have to see a little
window saying, "you have chosen to transfer a file which may be unsafe" and
then you have to click in continue, I mean if you already set the antivirus
then why in the world you have to keep seeing that announcement? they could
have done it like the one that appears when you click on a link on a
contact's personal message, it tells you if you want to continue but it gives
you the option to not show the message again.

Also is annoying that even when you continue with the transfer the open
option just takes you to your received files folder.

Hope they can fix that problem, what the users accept to receive is their
responsability, we get a fair notification when a file is getting transfered
giving us the chance to accept it or decline it so why all that fuss with the
unsafe thing plus also suggesting us to download the One Care scanner,
sometimes it looks like if is just to promote the One Care live thing.

So, I just developed a small app that does nothing (just closes it self) to
fool messenger. With the warning I can live with.. although is very annoying.
