| | my contacts I had to reformat my hard drive and since I reinstalled Windows Live Messenger, every contact I have in Windows Live Mail comes up as a contact in Windows Live Messenger in Other Contacts. Is there a way to get rid of other contacts? There are so many of them. I only have 7 contacts out of 100 or more that I chat with. -- Help and Thank you |

| | Re: my contacts what do you mean that the contacts will remain in listed? When I reinstalled all the programs back onto this computer, I did install Outlook Express, but I wanted Windows Live Mail, so I downloaded it from Microsoft. I also downloaded W.L. Messenger instead of Windows Messenger that also was on the computer. Since I did this, I cannot delete any contacts and there are almost 200 in W.L. Messenger. I have done what you suggested and I still get the message that the contacts will be deleted from W.L. Mail. I am so confused now. Please help. | | Re: my contacts Hi Clorey, Windows Live Mail is not the new Hotmail, you have an option to view your e-mails in Windows Live Mail which is part of the Windows Live Suite and recommended client to check your e-mail. The same as Outlook Express would be for Windows Office. But if you don't have Windows Live Mail installed in your computer (let's say at your friend's house or at an Internet Café) you should use Hotmail which is the Web site where you can check your e-mail as you did before. As for your other question, when deleting a contact from the Messenger contact list just don't check any checkbox in the confirmation dialog and click on the "Delete contact" button. This will remove the contact from Messenger but not from your Hotmail contacts nor block it. Makes sense? | | Re: my contacts Hi Clorey, I do not use Windows Live Mail. I use Outlook Express. I do not know if you use Remote Assistance. If you accept Remote Assistance Help or you help others, but if you use Remote Assistance, the latest Windows Messenger must be installed. http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...displaylang=en The version number is 5.1. When you installed all the programs, did you also reinstall all the Windows Hotfixes and Optional Software Programs, when you click Custom, instead of Express? What version of Windows Live Messenger is installed? Ex. Version 2008 (8.5.1302.1018) Oh, every time you Compose a message to a person, that person is added as a contact in Windows Live Mail, in order to make writing to that person, a little easier the next time. In Outlook Express, you click on Tools then Options and click on the Send Tab, to see what I mean. See if Windows Live Mail, is set up the same way. The contacts between Windows Live Messenger and Windows Live Mail, are shared. -- thecreator "Clorey" <Clorey@xxxxxx> wrote in message news:2302A67C-7990-4EAB-AE0F-55093C647C15@xxxxxx Quote: > what do you mean that the contacts will remain in listed? | | To: the creator re my contacts Hello and thank you for writing back to me. The Windows Live Messenger is version 8.5.1302.1018 as you said. I just opened Windows Live Mail and I rec'd an email from a friend, so I answered it as a reply. In Windows Live Messenger, I see her name as a contact. This is what is supposed to happen right? This to me, seems like a very stupid thing to do, because I only have 6 people that I converse with on Messenger, so why do I need each and every contact that I email? I don't get it. I went to add/remove windows components and unchecked Windows Messenger, so I believe it is not installed. I was using Outlook Express, but I like how Windows Live Mail looks, so I downloaded it and use it. Should I go back to Windows Messenger to avoid all these contacts? Please let me know and thanks for your help. Clorey -- Help and Thank you "thecreator" wrote: Quote: > Hi Clorey, > > I do not use Windows Live Mail. | | To: Marisol re my contacts Thx for your help. I deleted each and every contact that was in W.L. Messenger and now they are gone from W.L. Mail. This isn't what I wanted to do. I just don't see why they are all in W.L. Messenger and I don't IM them. It all seems stupid to me.
