Contacts Issue

Okay I don't know where else to go about this but this is the closest place I
could query.

For a few months now my contacts in Windows Live Messenger are not showing
up in my Contacts list online at hotmail.com. Additionally, when I click on
any of the contacts in my list on hotmail.com, it says "This contact cannot
be changed because it has already been deleted."

What is the deal? I have not been able to synchronize my contacts for quite
some time now.

I update them in Windows Live Messenger. I delete them all. Sign into
Messenger again and nothing appears. Then, I also use Windows Live Mail, open
the Contacts window there, nothing happens when I add, delete or re-add them
multiple ways.

What I'm really wanting is when I log in to hotmail.com online through
Internet Explorer, is for the Contacts list to match what I have in Messenger
or Winodws Live Mail. (and I do mean Windows Live Messenger).

I am using VHP w/SP1 x86. I actually use WLMessenger and WLMail Beta.

Please help with the contacts. Thank you.

Your Live / Hotmail contacts are maintained on a server at Microsoft.

When you use WLMessenger to sign into your identity, the program should
download and display your up to date contacts list from the server at
Microsoft. The same principle applies, if you use WLMail to sign into
your identity.

When you use WLMail or WLMessenger to amend your contacts, these
programs should synchronize any additions, deletions or amendments with
the central server. So much for the theory!

In practice, two way synchronization may not occur immediately and the
process sometimes fails. I found that when I used WLMail or WLMessenger
to update my contacts list, changes did not always "stick". You could
try the following workaround:

Close WLMail (if it is running on your computer). Also, close or sign
out from WLMessenger.

Then, use your Internet browser to log into your mail account at
hotmail.com via the webmail interface. Make any necessary amendments to
your central contacts list via the webmail interface. Save your changes
and sign out from your mail account

Next time you use WLMail or WLMessenger to sign in, these programs
should synchronize automatically with the central server.

Thereafter, do not use WLMail or WLMessenger for subsequent amendments.

Re: Contacts Issue

Tried that. Still has not worked. It's as if the contacts that were once
there are permanently stuck. It's within hotmail.com itself.

Funny thing is, if I export the contact list from hotmail.com, it gives me
the updated list that I should have.

So the deal is, it's just not displaying correctly ON hotmail.com, itself.
It just won't show me the real thing. And when I try to edit any of the
contacts that ARE showing.... again... it continues to say "this contact
cannot be edited because it has already been deleted."

So then I try to select them all (In classic mode or new mode) and then hit
delete and it states that my contacts are temporarily unavailable. So then it
offers the option to "report this error to Microsoft" button. I click the
button and it says it's "unable to report at this time"

OMG seriously

Re: Contacts Issue

I cannot replicate your experience on my computer (Win XP Professional
SP3) with IE7, WLMessenger (Build 8.5.1302.1018) and WLMail (Build
12.0.1606). I use the Hotmail webmail interface to maintain my contact
lists - and everything works fine.

You have installed the beta releases of WLMessenger and WLMail on your
computer. That was rather brave because in effect, you are acting as an
unpaid tester for Microsoft's program developers.

I suspect you are suffering from bugs in the software. If so, it might
be worth uninstalling the beta software and revert to the last stable
versions of these programs.
