Line: 1 Error : 'a' is null or not an object ' What is a runtime error? and how do i debug? when i press the debug button, it brings me to a just-in-time debugging , which list New instance of Microsoft Script Editor as the only possible Debugger. | | Re: Please help me with Runtime Error Greetings, Well it's not your code, so you don't need to debug it . It's actually coming from theadvertisement window or the Live Today screen (if you have it enabled). Unfortunately figuring these problems out can be difficult here on the newsgroup. However, as a starting point you should clear out IE's cookies and cache. To do so, open up Internet Explorer, click the Tools menu, then Internet Options and under the Browsing history category, choose the Delete button. Then choose both Delete files and Delete cookies buttons. If you're using something prior to IE7 or IE8, the procedure will be a bit different, but it's all within that dialog but if you need assistance, feel free to post back. Then finally reset IE's settings by going over to the Security tab in the same Internet Options window, choosing the Internet zone and then Default level (if it's not grayed out). Then head over to the Privacy tab, and choose the Default button (again, if not grayed out). Then restart Messenger and see if the problem still exists. -- Jonathan Kay Microsoft MVP - Windows Live Messenger MSN Messenger/Windows Messenger MessengerGeek Blog: http://www.messengergeek.com Messenger Resources: http://messenger.jonathankay.com (c) 2008 Jonathan Kay - If redistributing, you must include this signature or citation -- "little_sliver" <littlesliver@xxxxxx> wrote in message news:86802624-C364-4D4F-9616-4521FDF081F9@xxxxxx Quote: > I been receiving a message whenever i start windows live messenger > it says ' A Runtime Error has occurred. | | Re: Please help me with Runtime Error Hi, That is a solution, but oddly enough the Today page is actually very popular and most people don't want to disable it. -- Jonathan Kay Microsoft MVP - Windows Live Messenger MSN Messenger/Windows Messenger MessengerGeek Blog: http://www.messengergeek.com Messenger Resources: http://messenger.jonathankay.com (c) 2008 Jonathan Kay - If redistributing, you must include this signature or citation -- "phate321" <phate321@xxxxxx> wrote in message news:E4785AA1-BE28-486B-9DEC-5EC596B7D693@xxxxxx Quote: > I found that if you sign in to messenger then go to "tools" "options" then > the "general" tab and deselect "show windows live today after i sign in to > messenger" runtime error fixed. |

| | Re: Please help me with Runtime Error I get the runtime error as well, but that caused me to note that things are r-e-a-l-l-y running slowly on the pc. So I opened task manager and note that msnmsgr.exe is taking up to 98% of the CPU usage!! It seems to floate between 92-98, occassionally dips to 67... but then back up! (60962k of mem usage) What is this about??? It is really dragging me down!! | | Re: Please help me with Runtime Error Greetings Susan, In that case, I'm going to guess that there's some Javascript on whichever Today page you're getting which is looping and causing the CPU spike. Besides turning it off as already mentioned, typically these problems can be fixed by emptying the Internet Explorer Temporary Internet Files and clearing your Internet Explorer cookies. As you know how to determine memory and CPU usage, I don't think it's necessary to provide instructions on how to do that, but if you need any assistance let me know. -- Jonathan Kay Microsoft MVP - Windows Live Messenger MSN Messenger/Windows Messenger MessengerGeek Blog: http://www.messengergeek.com Messenger Resources: http://messenger.jonathankay.com (c) 2009 Jonathan Kay - If redistributing, you must include this signature or citation -- "susan0101" <susan0101@xxxxxx> wrote in message news:E56A9D6F-A1AA-4DD1-8565-B8A54671FF95@xxxxxx Quote: > I get the runtime error as well, but that caused me to note that things are > r-e-a-l-l-y running slowly on the pc.
