Vista - 2009 beta wil not connect

Initially I posted this in the IE 8 Beta 2 disscussion group but since the
2009 Messenger Beta is affected as well I thought I'd see if any one here has
any suggestions.

I have a problem getting beta 2 to display any web page from outside my
local network. I have also installed the latest Messenger beta this also
fails to connect to the outside world.

In the browser I get the usual message saying it cannot display the page I
want, clicking the 'Diagnose Connection Problems' button returns a message
that "Windows found a problem but cannot be repaired automatically" but
doesn't tell me what the problem is, not helpful.

My router has a browser based interface and I can connect to that without
problems as well as other pages on the local network. This would indicate
beta 2 has a problem with the router. However having installed a virtual
machine using Virtual Box, a clean copy of Vista and beta 2 and the messenger
beta, they both work without any errors, this virtual machine is on the same
PC. This indicates that the error is on the PC not the router, maybe a clash
with some other software. I have had the virtual machine configure as NAT and
with as "host" requiring me to create a network bridge on the main PC, both
methods work OK, I don't know however if Virtual Box is wrapping the the data
up before passing it on, if it is then I guess the router doesn't know it
from beta 2 and passes it on, so we would be back to a router problem.

The PC is a Dell Vostro 3Ghz dual core with 4GB memory, running Vista
Ultimate. Previous versions of IE and messenger were running OK before the
update and when I backed out are running again. I have not tried updating
other PC's on the network. I live in France (but don't speak french), my ISP
is France Telecom / Orange and the router is a Livebox (Sagem version)
provided by them. There are some settings I can change but some are blocked.

I have many years PC and network experience so have tried all the usual
check, config change etc. but this one has me beaten, something in the beta
versions of both IE and Messenger are clashing but I don't know where to
look, any suggestions or information would be greatly appreciated, this is
the first time any beta install from Microsoft has failed and I really don't
want to have to start again with a clean install just for this.

I have the same problem, I have even done system restore and does not work, I
am connected to skype still and shows internet is contated but still getting
the same issue, don't really want to start over again so if anyone has the
magic cure please help us

don't know if it helps you but my problem was caused by Kaspersky Internet
Serurity version 7, upgraded to the latest 2009 version and both messenger
and IE8 beta 2 are working again.
