Contacts Lost

I just got myself a new phone with Windows Live pre-installed in it so I
decided to try it out. My Messenger contacts got added to my phone list, so I
decided to delete them without knowing that it will be deleted from Messenger
too, so I am now left with a Messenger with ZERO contacts.
Is there any way I can get them back. This really comes across as something
which is unheard to me and many others.

Re: Contacts Lost

Hello Ben,

If the contacts are removed from your principal Messenger contacts list,
you might still have them in the Hotmail contact list. To check this,
you can log in at http://mail.live.com/ with your Windows Live ID and
the corresponding password. If it is a EASI-ID (E-Mail as sign in), you
will likely get an error message from Hotmail, offering a link to switch
to your contacts. If Hotmail opens, look in the left corner, and click
Contacts there. You can note the Windows Live IDs of the contacts from
there and re-add them to your Messenger list.

The Messenger categories however (if you used such) will be gone and you
will have to sort them from new. Furthermore, if also the Hotmail
contact list is empty, then there is no way of restoring the contacts
unless you did a *.ctt export somewhen (Menu > Actions > Save instant
messaging contacts).

However, your friends still have you in their lists, so as soon as they
start talking to you, you will be able to re-add them from the
conversation window.

A third way is to check the Allow list which is not necessarily the
Forward list. To do this, sign in to Messenger, open its Menu, and
choose Tools > Options... Then click the section "Privacy". Two lists
will appear. In the left one, there might be your contacts still. You
can re-add them from there, by right-clicking each one and selecting
"Add to contacts".

Please provide feedback as to if any of these ways worked for you to
solve your problem.

Best regards,

Re: Contacts Lost

I had the same thing happen to me, I was trying to sync windows messenger to
my cellphone, and when I signed in using my PC later that day, only about 1/4
of my contacts were there.
Is there anyway to "rollback" the msn server? or do you have to add them one
at a time from the msn privacy window as you already suggested?
