| | Contact is a virus Hi, I have a contact which is a chinese-english dictionary. It has worked fine for several months but lately it has sent me phonechat requests. A few days ago when I was using my messenger all the chat windows started blinking. It was suspicious so I pulled out the internet cable. When I logged in again a friend said I had sent him a photo album, although I hadn't. Now I've tried to REMOVE this dictionary contact. But the same thing happens and the next time i sign in it APPEARS AGAIN. What shall I do? Thanks! |

| | Re: Contact is a virus Greetings Hannah, I think you're dealing with separate problems here -- a contact cannot make changes to your computer or cause you do anything. The whole idea of Messenger's invite model is that you have to accept a request for anything to happen. That said, if you're sending files to random contacts, it sounds like you've accepted and executed a virus or worm. Unfortunately there is no sure way to remove such things automatically as virus scanners do not know about every single one of them. Luckily, they're pretty easy to locate and kill for those who are familiar with Windows -- they just show up in the Task Manager processes tab. BTW, what is the Live ID/e-mail for this contact in question? -- Jonathan Kay Microsoft MVP - Windows Live Messenger MSN Messenger/Windows Messenger MessengerGeek Blog: http://www.messengergeek.com Messenger Resources: http://messenger.jonathankay.com (c) 2008 Jonathan Kay - If redistributing, you must include this signature or citation -- "hannah" <hannah@xxxxxx> wrote in message news:939EB922-9A35-43D6-A177-2AC165C7E029@xxxxxx Quote: > Hi, I have a contact which is a chinese-english dictionary.
